Two Hinged Parabolic Arch
Item Code: RS 044
Arched bridge is a kind of bridge with abutments at each end shaped as a curved arch. Arch bridges work by transferring the weight of the bridge and other loads on it into a horizontal thrust restrained by the abutments at either side. Mostly, there are no vertical loads, bending moments and shear forces on arched bridges. With considering the principles of the strength of materials, the radius of the arch and the dimension of the bridges are selected in a way that the vertical loads convert to compression load along the arch. Therefore, in areas with good-quality soil, large openings (up to 500 meter) can be bridged by the arched bridges.
