A heat pump is a machine whose work is based on absorbing heat from a low temperature source in the evaporator and delivering this heat in the condenser. By examining the compression refrigeration cycle, it is clearly seen that the heat energy produced by the heat pump is more than the work input to it, therefore, heat pumps can be used in heating systems in order to reduce energy consumption
The source of low temperature in the evaporator is generally water or air.
